  1. People, animals, machines, kaleidoscopically re-

  3. respond to changelings and mutants, mythic even 
  4. grotesque figures of constant change. Computers 
  5. are personified as wise guides, especially for the 
  6. young. A benevolent computer allies itself with a 
  7. group of teens to solve mysteries or problems in 
  8. the television series GhostWriter . This computer 
  9. has no voice. To get the clues, the kids must read 
  10. the words on the screen. Visual space is more 
  11. resilient than McLuhan foresaw, but he was also 
  12. right: under electronic conditions spatial 
  13. experience is transformed. Starting young. 
  14. Generation by generation.
